Artichoke House ResidenceZhongkai Sheshan Villas, Shanghai, China This house unfolds in a series of layers not unlike the outer leaves of an artichoke. Architectural and landscape designs harmonize to protect the heart of the house and reveal layers of space as needed. A thick wall of limestone slices across the property, forming a second boundary or "leaf" of the house. Within this boundary is the heart of the house: the kitchen, dining room, and great room. An expansive glass wall reveals the pool, landscape and river beyond.
