Bridge House

Zhongkai Sheshan Villas, Shanghai, China

A bridge provides access to the home -- a symbolic transition from the public outside world to the private one. The home is comprised of two pavilions connected by a glass shrouded entry. The first pavilion, on the north side of the black clad granite wall, is only revealed after one enters the home. It contains the principal living spaces and appears to float in the river that runs through the property. Symbolically, the design itself functions as a bridge between ancient Chinese history and today's modern culture and lifestyle.
